- Measurement & Linear Range: The probe offers a 2 mm (80 mil) linear range. This range starts at about 0.25 mm (10 mils) from the target. It extends from 0.25 mm to 2.3 mm (10 to 90 mils), corresponding to approximately –1 to –17 Vdc. We recommend a -9 Vdc gap setting for radial vibration, which equals roughly 1.27 mm (50 mils).
- Incremental Scale Factor (ISF): For a standard 1 or 5 meter system, the ISF is 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) with a ±5% interchangeability error. This applies over the 80 mil range from 0°C to +45°C. The 9 meter system offers the same scale factor but with a ±6.5% error. The extended temperature range (ETR) version also maintains a ±6.5% error across the same conditions.
- Deviation from Best Fit Straight Line (DSL): The standard 1 or 5 meter system shows less than ±0.025 mm (±1 mil) deviation. The standard 9 meter system and ETR versions show less than ±0.038 mm (±1.5 mil) deviation. These values hold at 0°C to +45°C.
- Electrical Characteristics: The nominal probe DC resistance (RPROBE) from center conductor to outer conductor measures 7.59 ± 0.50 Ω for a 1.0 meter length. The extension cable has a typical capacitance of 69.9 pF/m (21.3 pF/ft). Field wiring supports 0.2 to 1.5 mm² (16 to 24 AWG) with a maximum length of 305 meters (1,000 feet) between the Proximitor Sensor and the monitor.
- Temperature & Environmental Tolerance: The standard probe operates from -52°C to +177°C. The extended temperature range probe handles -52°C to +218°C at the tip and -51°C to +260°C for the cable and connector. The probe shows less than a 3% change in Average Scale Factor when tested in 93% humidity for up to 56 days per IEC 68-2-3.
- Material & Mechanical Strength: The probe tip uses molded Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) plastic. The probe case is AISI 303 or 304 stainless steel. The TipLoc and CableLoc designs provide a robust bond and 330 N (75 lbf) pull strength. The larger 8 mm diameter offers a more rugged case and thicker encapsulation for superior physical abuse resistance.
- Pressure & Thread Specifications: The probe seals differential pressure between the tip and case using a Viton® O-ring. The thread is 3/8-24 UNF with a maximum engagement length of 0.563 inches. The recommended torque for standard forward mounted probes is 11.2 N•m (100 in•lbf), with a maximum rated torque of 33.9 N•m (300 in•lbf).
- Agency Approvals & Options: This model includes CSA, ATEX, and IECEx approvals (option 05). It features the miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector (option 02) with standard cable. The total length is 1.0 meter (3.3 feet). The overall case length is 2.5 inches.
Installation & Application Notes
- Ensure the target surface is clean and free of debris for accurate measurements. Use the recommended torque settings to avoid damaging the probe or threads. For radial vibration, set the gap to -9 Vdc for optimal performance.
- For hazardous areas, follow the temperature classification schedule. The EPL Ga and Gc classifications cover T1 to T5 with specific ambient temperature limits. The EPL Dc classification provides T280°C to T90°C ratings based on the ambient temperature.
- Use the optional FluidLoc cable option to prevent oil or liquid leakage through the cable interior. This feature is especially useful in wet or lubricated environments.
- Do not expose the probe to temperatures below –34˚C (-30˚F) as this may cause premature failure of the pressure seal.
